The story so far…

Jeremiah became a prophet when he was a young man. He brought God’s messages during the reigns of the last kings of Judah, just before God’s people were captured and taken into exile in Babylonia.

Now read Jeremiah 1:4–10 together.

What happened next…

The people didn’t like what Jeremiah was saying. He kept telling them that, because of their wrongdoing, God was going to send disaster – but Jeremiah also brought messages of hope for the future. His book tells how the people of Judah were eventually taken into exile by the Babylonians, just as they had been warned. But God promised that one day he would bring his people back to their homeland and their enemy would be destroyed.

Did you know…?

Jeremiah God chose Jeremiah to be his messenger even before he was born. He gave God’s messages for many years. Those messages were sad and it was hard for Jeremiah to say them, especially as God had told him that the people would not change their ways.

Babylon The Babylonian army attacked Jerusalem and won! The people were taken away to Babylon and were no longer in control of their own lives.

What happened to Jeremiah? Jeremiah was not treated well by his own people. They did not like what he was saying and he was put in prison and even down an empty well! Jeremiah was taken into exile, probably to Egypt.

Try it out

Jeremiah was probably a teenager when God first spoke to him about being his messenger. Jeremiah was not sure at first but God told him that his age did not matter: Jeremiah was not too young.

You may be a child or a teenager: do you think you are too young to do anything for God or to be his friend? Fill in the spaces on this table. There are no right answers or wrong answers but you may want to chat with your Bible Coach about some of them.
