The story so far…

Jesus was becoming famous! He had done amazing things: stopped a wild storm blowing; healed people who were ill; even brought a young man who had died back to life. Now people were following him everywhere he went, excited to see what he did and listening eagerly to what he had to say.

Now read Luke 9:10–20 together.

What happened next…

Jesus asked his 12 disciples not to talk about him being the Messiah to anyone else. But from this point on they knew that their Friend and Teacher was even greater than they had thought.

Did you know…?

Followers There were many religious teachers in Jesus’ time that had followers or “disciples”. They were like students who would learn from their teacher. Jesus chose a group of 12 disciples but they were not the only ones who followed him. Crowds of people went wherever he did.

Bread When Jesus fed the crowd of people, they would have enjoyed the meal but they would also have thought about the stories in Exodus. When Moses and the people left Egypt, they lived in the desert for 40 years and, all that time, God gave them bread to eat.

Bethsaida This was a fishing town. It is where Jesus’ followers Peter, Andrew and Philip came from.
