Here’s what happened when Kristin and her mom, Lynda, read this Bible story together, from the New International Version of the Bible.
Kristin asked: “What does ‘crucified the sinful nature’ mean?”
Lynda replied: “When Jesus was nailed to the cross and hung to die, that is what ‘crucified’ means. Everyone is born with a sinful nature. It’s a sinful heart. Your sinful nature was crucified when Jesus was crucified. That is why Jesus died on the cross. He gathered up our sins to pay the penalty for them. The penalty for sin is death. Because Jesus paid our penalty with his perfect life, we can spend eternity with God. Jesus took away our sins. Our sins were crucified with him on the cross. Jesus paid the price for our sinful hearts.”
