Holy Spirit Day

Here’s what happened when Hannah and her mum, Sarah, read ‘Holy Spirit Day’ together.

Hannah is 8 and enjoys being with her friends, swimming and playing the flute.

Hannah wanted to know: Why didn’t they burn up with the fire?

Sarah answered: Probably the main reason the disciples did not catch fire was because this was a miracle and God made sure they were kept safe. God is in charge of everything including fire, and he can control what gets burnt up. On this occasion, fire was used to show that something special was happening and not to make something burn. It also says in verse 3 that the people saw what ‘seemed to be tongues of fire’ – maybe it was like fire, but it did not actually burn anything up. It could be a bit like the fire that Moses saw in Exodus 3 – the bush was on fire, but it was not burned up.

Here’s what happened when Caleb and his mom, Lori, read this Bible story together.

10-year old Caleb likes playing games and does taekwondo.

Caleb asked: What were the tongues of fire? Was it the Holy Spirit?

Lori answered: The Bible says that the Holy Spirit did fill each of them And, the Bible tells us many times about how God uses “fire” to burn away the sinful things in our lives. So God sent the tongues of fire to each of them and it took away the sinful things in their hearts so that they could use their mouths to clearly speak God’s message.
