Jesus walks on water

Here’s what happened when Joel and his dad, Geoff, read ‘Jesus walks on water’ together.

10-year-old Joel loves riding his bike, climbing, reading and Star Wars.

Joel wanted to know: Why did Peter want to walk on the water? Why didn’t he just say ‘Please come over here to the boat’ or ‘Please calm the storm’?

Geoff answered: Peter and the other disciples thought that they were seeing a ghost and they were terrified. Peter wanted some real proof that it really was Jesus. Peter knew that Jesus could do some pretty amazing things so he asked Jesus to do something that was impossible. If it really was Jesus then he could easily make it possible for Peter to walk on water, like Jesus was doing. And sure enough, Jesus proved that it really was him by allowing Peter to walk on water.

Here’s what happened when Janek and his Sunday School teacher read this Bible story together.

12-year old Janek lives in Sri Lanka. He likes collecting stamps.

Janek wondered: What do we learn from this passage?

Janek’s Sunday School teacher answered: When we go through difficulties and we look to Jesus for help, we must listen to what he says and obey him. When we expect Jesus to help us, it is up to us to do our part as well. We can’t only tell our problem to Jesus and keep waiting for a miracle. And when Jesus does tell us to do something we must fully trust him and not have even a little doubt like how Peter thought he was going to drown. We must have faith in Jesus and with Jesus close to us everything will be alright.

Janek replied: If Jesus asks me to jump into the water, I would do so without fear and I will not doubt like Peter and panic in water. As I know when i am with Jesus, I am safe and strong.
